Recently, the School of Design of JHU and Manchun Street in Jianghan District held a signing ceremony at the Dajia Community Party and Mass Service Center, launching the prelude to their cooperation. The members participating in this event are Dean Wan Bo, heads of the Environmental Design Teaching and Research Section, other leaders, and relevant faculty members. More than 10 officials participated in the signing ceremony, including Huang Hongmei, Secretary of the CPC Party Working Committee of Manchun Street in Jianghan District, NPC deputies of the Jianghan District, and members of the Jianghan District Political Consultative Conference.

At the ceremony, Wan Bo introduced the basic situation of JHU and the School of Design. He stated that university-community cooperation serves as the primary pathway for cultivating applied talents and an important means to support the economic and social development of Wuhan. This collaboration with Manchun Street will undoubtedly leverage the strengths of both parties to realize the positive vision of "Manchun Street: Spring Fills the Street", create a model project for Wuhan's urban renewal, and contribute JHU Design's expertise to the city's socioeconomic development.

Huang Hongmei expressed her expectations for the cooperation, hoping to utilize the professional expertise of the School of Design to upgrade the greening of community environments through projects such as the renovation of public spaces in old communities. She also emphasized integrating Manchun Street's unique historical culture into the design, allowing residents to experience cultural edification in their daily lives and further enhancing their sense of cultural identity and belonging to the community.

The two sides signed the Cooperative Agreement for the Joint Construction of a Community Aesthetics Education Practice Base and jointly unveiled the "Jianghan University Talent Training Base" plaque. Huang Hongmei presented volunteer flags to student volunteers participating in the Manchun Street old community renewal project. With great enthusiasm, the students received the volunteer banners, expressing unanimous honor at the opportunity to participate in the urban renewal project of Manchun Subdistrict—a community steeped in profound historical heritage. They pledged to go all out to contribute to community construction and hoped to comprehensively improve their professional skills and overall quality through this practice.

It is reported that the first cooperative community renewal design project will be carried out in an orderly manner focusing on space optimization, environmental beautification, facility improvement, and cultural heritage preservation. The faculty and student team from the School of Design will fully leverage their professional strengths to deeply explore the historical and cultural connotations of Manchun Street. Through creative inheritance and innovative development, they will carefully tailor unique renewal plans based on the needs of several communities, aiming to provide instructive, replicable, and promotable successful experiences and models for the renovation of public spaces in Wuhan's old communities.By Chen Li)
