The Library of Jianghan University
Located in the center of the campus, the library of Jianghan University is flanked by lush woods and crystal water. Spanning an area of 29,340 square meters, the library is a ten-storey building, with one floor underground and nine above the ground. It has three elevators, a central air-conditioning system and 24 reading rooms with 3,770 seats.
As of December 2023, the library houses a collection of 2.27 million volumes of paper books, 3.06 million volumes of e-books and e-journals, including 2,011 varieties of Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals. It has incorporated 47 Chinese and foreign databases (including 163 sub-databases). It is a member of the China Academic Library & Information System (CALIS), and has realized the joint construction and sharing of data resources with university libraries nationwide.
The library is dedicated to the construction of networked and digital literature resources. It has established a sizable digital literature information resource system which essentially encompasses all the disciplines and majors of the university. It aims to develop a comprehensive literature information resource guarantee system that integrates paper documents, e-resources, and online open access resources. With diverse modern means of service, the library provides a wide range of services for the readers, such as lending and reading services, document delivery, document indexing and citation searches, discipline analysis, and reader training.
The library has 65 staff members in several sectors, namely the Office of General Affairs, the Department of Resource Development, the Department of Information Services, the Department of Literature Lending, the Department of System Technology, and the Department of Reading Promotion.
Embracing the principle of “readers first and service orientation,” the library implements the Regulations for Libraries of General Institutions of Higher Education and actively aligns with the school objectives of developing domestic first-class disciplines and a high-level city university.
As a crucial facilitator in talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, and cultural inheritance and innovation, the library effectively restructures its resources, optimizes the layout of collections, enhances technical support, and broadens service functions, thus furnishing effective information support for the “double first-class” construction of the university.
