The ICF Dragon Boat World Cup and Qualification for the Chengdu 2025 World Games successfully concluded in Zigui county, Yichang city, Hubei province on Oct. 2. Among the 25 athletes of the national dragon boat team of China, 17 were students from Jianghan University. Their outstanding performance helped the host team win 7 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals at the event.
This event, an International A-class competition, is currently the highest-specification and highest-level dragon boat competition in the world, and has attracted dragon boat athletes from around the globe to participate. It embodies international influence, China’s image, Hubei’s charm, and Yichang’s characteristics.
The Xujiachong Bay Base is a scenic venue of lakes and mountains. The 17 students were selected through rigorous competitions to enter the national team. They participated in 18 events in three days of intense competitions and harvested shining medals for the country.
This competition was not only a showdown of sportsmanship but also a cultural exchange and dialogue. The students engaged in in-depth cultural communication with the German team, Thai team, and the Arow (a team of Russian individuals) dragon boat team. They exchanged cultural shirts and sharing their stories and local customs, which promoted their friendship. Through the competition, the students improved their dragon boat competitive skills, broadened their international horizons, and laid a solid foundation for future international cooperation.
