The 2024 “Higher Education Press Cup” national college students’ short video contest, themed “Telling China’s Story in Foreign Languages,” successfully drew to a close at Hunan University recently. In an intense competition of over 5,000 entries from 919 universities nationwide, two teams from the School of Foreign Languages secured a national first prize and second prize respectively. Their mentor, Chen Ziwei, was recognized with an “Excellent Mentor Award,” and Jianghan University was honored an “Outstanding Organization Award.”
The contest, guided by the China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese (CACSEC), was jointly organized by Nanjing University, Hunan University, and the Higher Education Press. It aimed to bolster college students’ proficiency in presenting Chinese discourse, narratives, and aesthetic charm in foreign languages, cultivating well-rounded socialist successors who excel inmorals, intellect, physical fitness, aesthetics, and social service. Participants were tasked with focusing on the theme “I and the Scientific and Technological Innovation in My Eyes,” selecting one sub-theme from “STI and My Life,” “STI and Intangible Cultural Heritage,” or “Digital STI.” They were encouraged to use a variety of narrative techniques and audiovisual language to tell compelling stories behind the surge of scientific and technological innovation across different sectors, ranging from universities to localities, enterprises to industries, carriers to talents, and governments to markets.
The contest attracted 5,053 student works from 919 universities nationwide. After rigorous preliminary and semi-final rounds, 72 entries were selected to the national exchange session.
