On the evening of March 9, Beijing time, at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup Baku 2025, Meng Zhiwei, a Class-2021 undergraduate student majoring in sports training from the School of Physical Education of our university, represented the Chinese national team and secured a silver medal in the men’s rings event with his outstanding performance.
In the final of the competition, Meng Zhiwei demonstrated tenacious fighting spirit and outstanding competitive performance. With a routine graded at a difficulty level of 5.5, he scored 13.800 points to secure the silver medal, marking his debut in senior international competitions.
Meng Zhiwei, though still a young athlete, has already achieved remarkable results. His accolades include: Third place in the men’s team event at the 2020 National Gymnastics Championships; First place in the men’s rings team event at the “Charm Hangzhou” 2022 ICBC Cup National Gymnastics Championships; runner-up in the men’s rings team at the 2023 National Gymnastics Championships; Second place in men’s rings at the National Gymnastics Champions Cup; First place in men’s rings at the 34th “Li-Ning Cup” Southwest Gymnastics Collaborative Zone Competition in 2024; Second place in men’s rings at the 2024 National Gymnastics Champions Cup.
Currently, Meng Zhiwei is training with the Chinese national team in preparation for upcoming competitions. We hope he keeps pushing forward, achieves even greater success, brings glory to our country, and brings honor to our university!
