On the morning of September 8, Jianghan University held the Opening Ceremony and Military Training Launch Ceremony for the 2025 grade students. A total of 5,784 new undergraduate and postgraduate students from 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government across the country, as well as international students from 23 countries including Russia, attended the ceremony.
Qin Daoming, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, Jing Xinhua, President of the University, commanding officers responsible for the military training, and all instructors undertaking the training attended the ceremony.
Qin Daoming presented the flag to the 2025 Grade Student Military Training Regiment of Jianghan University, and the commander of the 2025 Grade Student Military Training Regiment of Jianghan University received the flag.
On behalf of all teachers and students, Jing Xinhua extended a warm welcome to the new students and sincere gratitude to the instructors undertaking the military training task! He said that the arrival of new students has brought new vitality and energy to Jianghan University. All teachers and students of the university will embrace everyone with the most open and broad-minded attitude, and strive and grow together with everyone.
Jing Xinhua emphasized that the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, and technological innovation is advancing by leaps and bounds. We are ushering in a new technological era - the era of artificial intelligence. Whoever can correctly understand and apply artificial intelligence earlier will be able to seize the initiative and gain an advantage in future study and career development; whoever can continuously temper their learning ability and innovative thinking will have an irreplaceable core competitiveness; whoever can dedicate their knowledge, quality and ability to the motherland and serve the people will truly become a pioneer leading the tide of the times! He hopes that every student can embrace this new era full of opportunities and challenges with a rational, open and positive attitude, and strive to become a trendsetter who can navigate changes and lead innovation.
Jing Xinhua put forward expectations for all new students. Firstly, develop aspirations to contribute to national rejuvenation and find your bearings in this era of rapid change. We must recognize ourselves and anchor the direction; cherish the family and the country and identify the coordinate; forge ahead with courage and perseverance to achieve dreams. Secondly, foster a strong academic ethos and temper strong skills in the wave of science and technology. We must pay attention to basic learning and improve comprehensive quality; temper learning quality and enhance learning ability; make good use of various resources and tools to improve learning efficiency. Thirdly, forge comprehensive qualities and bravely shoulder the responsibility of youth in creating the future. We should not only pay attention to the progress of professional learning, but also attach importance to the improvement of our comprehensive ability. Temper resilience in challenges, learn tolerance in cooperation, cultivate a sense of responsibility in innovation, and accumulate the confidence to enter the society and meet challenges.

Jing Xinhua hopes that every day the students spend in the university, they will live up to their love, fear no challenges, and use solid knowledge and real growth to create a bright future that belongs to themselves and even more to our country. Relevant leaders of the troop undertaking the training delivered a speech at the Opening Ceremony and Military Training Launch Ceremony. He said that the rapid development of Jianghan University in recent years and the strong spirit demonstrated by the students have left a very deep impression on him. He emphasized that military training is the first compulsory course for college students when they enter the university, and it is also an extremely important course for young students to temper their will and quality. He hopes that the students will keep in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest entrustment, establish lofty ideals, cherish the precious time, study earnestly and train hard. Through military training, they will temper their will and build resilience, and lay a solid foundation for achieving a better self and shouldering the important task of strengthening the country. He required all officers and soldiers undertaking the training to keep in mind the mission of soldiers, strictly abide by military discipline, and successfully complete the military training task with a good spiritual outlook.
Associate Professor Wei Zushuai from the School of Artificial Intelligence, winner of the 2024 China Geographical Information Science and Technology Progress First Prize, spoke as a representative of teachers. Combining his own scientific research experience, he explained the profound impact of the artificial intelligence era on students' study and life. He hopes that students will keep up with the tide of the times. Firstly, learn to put forward good questions instead of only looking for standard answers; secondly, take the initiative to cross borders and grow into interdisciplinary innovative talents; thirdly, cherish real encounters and establish warm connections. He encouraged the students to take wisdom as their driving force as they navigate the vast ocean of artificial intelligence and youth.
Amidst the cheers and applause of the students, Sun Yue, who had just successfully completed the 9·3 Military Parade, returned to school to share her growth story with the new students. Using her experience in participating in the training and review of the 9·3 Military Parade, she encouraged the new students to cherish the growth platform of their alma mater, firmly grasp every opportunity for growth, set sail by the Triangle Lake, continue the glory of their alma mater, and become the person they most expected to be.
Su Zhongyuan, a junior student from the School of Intelligent Manufacturing, majoring in New Energy Vehicle Engineering (Grade 2022), spoke as a representative of senior students. He told the story of his step-by-step growth and leading participation in key provincial scientific research projects. At the glorious node when the university successfully obtained the qualification for recommending postgraduates without entrance examination, he called on the students to strive to realize their dreams with sweat, integrate the struggle of youth into the national "Manufacturing Powerhouse" strategy with practical actions of scientific and technological innovation, and strive to contribute youth power to forging "Critical National Assets".
Bai Bei, a new undergraduate student from the School of Humanities, majoring in Chinese Language and Literature (Grade 2025), spoke as a representative of new undergraduate students. Using the experience of growing up with her brother, she told the students that choosing Jianghan University is the most beautiful and “unexpected encounter”; recognizing Jianghan University is a "fertile soil and paradise" for growth; integrating into Wuhan is a "common growth" with the city; looking forward to the future is a "ride the wind and waves" of youth.
Xie Yang, a new postgraduate student from the School of Life Sciences, majoring in Biology (Grade 2025), spoke as a representative of new postgraduate students. From Southwest University to Jianghan University, the earnest expectations of teachers by the Triangle Lake and the good scientific research atmosphere of the university have increasingly inspired her to move forward steadily and make unremitting efforts. She hopes that she and all new students will take "cultivating virtue" as the root and uphold the bottom line of academic integrity; take "applying knowledge" as the trunk and build a bridge between knowledge and practice; take "compatibility" as the branches and weave interdisciplinary connections; take "innovation" as the leaves and bravely explore new frontiers of scientific research.
The students said one after another that the earnest entrustment of teachers and the growth experiences of seniors students have inspired their determination and motivation to grow and move forward. They will devote themselves to the subsequent military training with a more energetic spirit, fully temper their will and quality, better improve themselves in study and life, grow into useful talents at an early date, and contribute their youth power to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Zhang Hongxing, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, presided over the ceremony. Vice Presidents Li Weidong, Jia Yongsheng and Liu Jiyan attended the event. All school leaders of the university wore school badges for the representatives of new students and "lit up the future" together.
