In the summer of 2026, Jianghan University made coordinated plans and took multiple measures to extend its educational reach from campus to families. It carried out in-depth summer home visits while closely monitoring natural disasters in many parts of the country and activating an emergency care mechanism at the earliest opportunity. Through concrete actions, the university honored its student-centered commitment to education, ensuring that summer care remained uninterrupted and home-school collaborative education never lapsed.

Heartfelt and Practical Home Visits Deepen Educational Synergy

During the summer, home visit teams from various colleges combined in-person home visits with online meetings, traveling to many places in Hubei Province and to Guizhou and other provinces.

Before each visit, colleges screened students by level and category, set clear priorities, and ensured precise, targeted visits. During the visits, teachers gave parents a detailed account of students' overall performance on campus, shared highlights of their growth, explained national and university scholarship and financial aid policies in detail, and offered targeted academic guidance and career planning advice based on students' disciplines. Together with parents, they discussed the path to their children's growth and success. For students in remote areas outside Hubei, online video visits were conducted at the same time to ensure every student due for a home-visit receives one. After the visits, colleges reviewed students' developmental needs and families’ expectations one by one, maintained ongoing communication with parents, and deeply integrated ideological guidance, academic support, and psychological care, effectively opening up the “last mile” of home-school collaborative education.

A Heartfelt Concern Deep in the Mountains

The home visit team traveled to Qiandongnan in Guizhou Province and visited the homes of Xiao Wei and Xiao Yao, sitting down with the students and their parents for heart-to-heart talks.

Xiao Wei, who is about to enter senior year, faces the twin pressures of academics and employment. During the visit, Xiao Wei voiced a long-suppressed worry. The visiting teacher reassured the student patiently: “The university has an academic support mechanism, and your teachers and classmates will all help you. The university will also continue to recommend job opportunities to help you find the right direction and pursue employment with peace of mind.” Hearing this, the parents nodded repeatedly and said they would actively cooperate with the university to urge their son to complete his studies. Xiao Wei said earnestly, “Thank you, teachers. I will definitely work hard.”

After Xiao Yao enrolled, the university arranged a work-study position for her and provided various subsidies, giving her solid support to focus on her studies. She was diligent and hardworking, consistently ranking among the top in her major, and received a university scholarship. In her spare time, she joined a volunteer teaching association, donated clothing to children in mountainous areas, and demonstrated the responsibility of young people through volunteer service. The teachers encouraged her to plan well for the new semester, strengthen her professional foundation, and fully prepare for further study or employment. Xiao Yao’s parents said with emotion, “We feel very reassured that our child is at the university. We are truly touched that the teachers came so far to visit us.” As they parted, Xiao Yao said excitedly that she would continue to work hard and live up to the expectations of the university and her teachers.

Spreading Warmth Through Paintbrushes

“I am especially grateful to the university and the teachers for always paying attention to my sister’s studies, work, and mental state, and for being so thoughtful in everything, which has allowed her to study with peace of mind and keep growing,” said Xiao Wang’s older brother emotionally during an online home visit. Xiao Wang is a student in the School of Fine Arts.

After enrolling at the university, under the careful guidance of the school’s teachers, Xiao Wang grew from a member of the school’s Youth Volunteer Association to its leader. She ranked among the top students in her major and received the National Inspirational Scholarship. This summer, she took the lead in forming the “Art Mini Classroom” volunteer service team, going into communities and childcare classes for hospital staff’s children to offer aesthetic education courses such as creative handicrafts and fun painting. She served more than 60 children in total, giving back to society with her professional strengths. The counselor gave her parents a detailed report on Xiao Wang’s growth and progress. Her parent said with relief, “Our child has not only achieved academically but also learned to give back to society. That is our greatest comfort.”

A Teacher’s Words Were Like a Beam of Light

The home-visit team from the School of Foreign Languages walked through narrow alleys, climbed to the top floor of an old tube-shaped apartment building, and entered Xiao Kuan’s home. During the visit, Xiao Kuan’s mother took down a thick stack of honor certificates from the top of the wardrobe—Wuhan Municipal Government Scholarship, Second Prize in the National English Competition for College Students, and First Prize in the Hubei Provincial College Students’ Entrepreneurship Plan Competition of the “Challenge Cup”—all bearing witness to her child’s journey of hard work.

When he first entered university, Xiao Kuan once felt depressed and even failed a course. After noticing this, his counselor had many heart-to-heart talks with him, helping him regain his footing step by step, from academic planning to psychological adjustment. “The teacher’s words were like a beam of light shining into the darkest days.” Now Xiao Kuan’s overall performance ranks firmly among the top three in his class. He serves as a student cadre and plans to take the postgraduate entrance examination and go to a coastal city. He hopes that one day he can go abroad and tell China’s story well in foreign languages. During the home visit, the counselor had an in-depth discussion with his parents about Xiao Kuan’s development plans. His mother thanked the teachers with tears: “Thank you for always enlightening him and caring about him. Our child has changed, and our family has felt warmer because of it.”

Standing Together Through Storms to Protect Every Student’s Growth

Since the summer, many places in China have successively experienced extreme weather and severe natural disasters. The university has paid close attention and launched its emergency care mechanism multiple times, urgently opening channels to identify disaster-affected students and deliver temporary support. Counselors in all schools quickly conducted one-by-one checks on the family situations of students whose places of origin are in disaster-affected areas, simplified procedures, and ensured that the university’s care reached affected students in a timely manner, so that students and parents facing difficulties could feel the warm protection from the university.

Whether it is warm home visits reaching various places or emergency care with “instant application and processing,” Jianghan University has written a heartwarming answer sheet of uninterrupted summer care and home-school collaborative education with genuine feeling and practical action. Education is a two-way journey of love and responsibility. The university will continue to integrate care into daily work and touch students’ hearts, helping every student pursue their dreams and grow toward the sun with heart and emotion, and striving to write a Jianghan University chapter in home-school collaborative education in the new era.
