The 2025 China Canoeing Tour Wan’an Station (Jiangxi) recently came to a successful close. Twelve professional athletes from the university’s School of Physical Education, alongside 24 students from the School of International Education, competed together, demonstrating remarkable skill and securing an impressive haul of 3 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

The tournament brought together over 200 elite athletes from 11 provinces across China, with competitions divided into three categories: Masters, Open and Professional categories. The outstanding performance of our combined team of Chinese and international students achieved outstanding results.

It is reported that for many years, our university has offered university-wide elective courses in water sports such as stand-up paddling, dragon boating, and kayaking for all students. From Ji Bowen winning the gold medal in the men’s double kayak event  at the Paris Olympic Games, to the approval of the Theory and Practice of Major-Specific Instruction — Rowing I as a national first-class undergraduate course, the university has consistently strengthened teaching quality and cultivated outstanding athletic talent. Meanwhile, our university has consistently adhered to the principle of “using competitions to promote teaching, learning, and reform,” integrating practice into instruction and using it to improve teaching effectiveness. These efforts enhance students’ comprehensive abilities and cultivate talent to meet national needs. The outstanding achievements in this national competition not only testify to the strength of JHU’s water sports programs but also serve as a vivid example of the results of sports education.
